The 2nd C&EN Photo Contest

Calling all chemistry shutterbugs! C&EN invites you to enter its second photo contest. Show us what the theme "Beauty at the Lab Bench" means to you. Winners will receive a bag of mystery prizes and have their images printed in the October 31, 2011 issue of C&EN.

How to enter:

  1. 1. Email your photos to CENphotocontest@acs.org by September 30, 2011. Mulitple entries are permitted.

  2. 2. Include a caption of no more than 125 words for the photo along with your full name.

It's that easy!

Suggestions:

Keep a camera in your lab. Look at your bench, in your fume hood, or on shelves for things that are pretty. Snap a photo when you see something interesting, and send it to us!

Rules and Guidelines:

  1. 1. ACS employees and their family members are ineligible.

  2. 2. Submitted images must fall under the category of "Beauty at the Lab Bench" This can include both photographs and micrographs.

  3. 3. Entrants must confirm that submitted images are their original works, and do not infringe on the rights of other parties.

  4. 4. Entrants understand and agree to the requirement that all submitted photos will be uploaded to C&EN's Flickr page and labeled with a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 License. This will allow C&EN, and others, to use the image as long as the rightsholder is credited.

  5. 5. Entrants are prohibited from submitting images that are unlawful, libelous, abusive, obscene, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable.

  6. 6. Contest opens at 12:01 AM Eastern Standard Time on August 8, 2011. Images must be submitted by 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on September 30, 2011. Multiple entries are permitted.

  7. 7. Finalists will be notified the week of October 10, 2011, via email. Winners will appear in the October 31, 2011, issue of C&EN.

  8. 8. All submitted images are subject to approval before they are posted to the site.

  9. 9. Entries must have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

  10. 10. A description must be included with the submitted image stating the imaging technique used, the material being imaged, and any special filters or artistic methods used to create the image.

  11. 11. Winners will receive a "bag of chemistry awesomeness".

  12. 12. ACS and C&EN assume the right to use submitted images in both print and electronic formats including but not limited to: on the acs.org website, C&EN website, and for marketing and promotional purposes.
