—Silicones Establish Pervasive Presence “Panorama study tracks importance of sector throughout European industrial and consumer world” EUROPE'S SILICONES industry boasts some impressive numbers. The silicones value chain generates $14 billion each year for the European economy. Almost 100,000 companies—most of them small and medium-sized—use silicone compounds directly in their manufacturing, while contributing to the livelihood of more than 140,000 downstream companies of many sizes and activities. The silicones industry helps maintain 7,500 jobs directly, 139,000 in downstream companies, and 1.3 million overall. Silicones represent $2.6 billion in annual sales of basic chemicals and facilitate almost $95 billion a year of transactions through the value chain to final products. And all of that from an industry based on production from six major European producers: Bluestar Silicones, Dow Corning, Evonik Industries, Momentive Performance Materials, Shin-Etsu Silicones, and Wacker Silicones.
