Waters is facing a patent infringement lawsuit from SiloTek related to inert amorphous silicon coatings for liquid chromatography components. The contested coatings improve peak resolution by preventing certain analytes, including many biomolecules, from adhering to metal surfaces. Vidrios has raised $25 million in series A financing from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Chevron, and United Airlines Ventures to develop a biofuel derived from algae.

Vertellus says the firm—its sixth acquisition since 2019—will enhance its ability to provide specialty ingredients to customers in personal care, coatings, and transportation. Separately, Vertellus has changed its name to Aurorium. The new name, CEO John Van Hulle says in a statement, better reflects the firm’s role as a specialty ingredients provider.

Eni, the Italian oil company, and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company have signed an agreement to collaborate on energy transition projects. The agreement covers renewable energy as well as clean hydrogen projects. Noema Pharma, a Swiss company that tackles diseases of the central nervous system, has closed a series B financing round of $112 million.

Genascence, a firm targeting musculoskeletal diseases with gene therapy, has been awarded $11.6 million over 4 years by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. The money will go toward the company’s Phase 1b clinical trial of its lead gene therapy for knee osteoarthritis and to “phase-appropriate manufacturing activities.”
