FreezerFreezer. Using advanced composite thin-wall insulation to maximize internal volume, the Harris Platinum SI Series -85 °C freezers hold up to 30% more inventory than conventional ultralow-temperature freezers of equivalent size. Incorporating an RS485 data port for two-way communication, the freezer uses CryoSoft software for remote control and monitoring of temperature, set points, and freezer performance.

Qiagen offers a plasmid purification service that provides CGMP-grade ultrapure plasmid DNA in milligram to gram amounts for commercial and clinical applications, including gene therapy and genetic vaccination projects, and transfection into sensitive eukaryotic cell lines. A range of extra options includes low- and ultralow-endotoxin grades and restriction analysis.

Proteomics system. The 4700 Proteomics Discovery System directly links experimentally identified proteins to relevant biological information and annotative tools of the Celera Discovery System online platform, including direct links to biological and molecular function, SNP sites, alternate splice forms, and comprehensive genetic information. Leveraging TOF/TOF optics technology, the 4700 system helps researchers characterize proteins from a variety of proteomics workflows, including gel-based and multidimensional liquid chromatography (MDLC) experiments as well as the LC-MALDI approach.

RNA protocol. The T7 protocol automates all steps from isolating whole RNA to cRNA synthesis and purification. Yields of cRNA produced with the automated protocol compare favorably to those obtained from traditional manual methods run in tandem. Processed samples have proven to hybridize successfully to Affymetrix GeneChips, yielding data fully comparable to manual methods. The new protocol is a step in amplifying RNA generated from small amounts of sample materials for DNA microarray experiments.

DNA isolationDNA isolation. The Ultrafree-DA centrifugal device facilitates the single-step recovery of 100- to 10,000-base-pair DNA fragments from agarose gel slices. A band of interest is placed into the preassembled filter device, and centrifugal force extrudes the DNA from the gel pores and into a collection tube, where it is ready for sequencing, cloning, or labeling.

NMR software. The Delta software program combines spectrometer control and data management into a single robust application. Operating in both Windows and Linux environments, the program allows users to perform tasks typically accomplished through the use of multiple programs. Output can be displayed in a variety of formats, including PostScript, JPEG, PDF, and encapsulated PostScript.

Peptide synthesizersPeptide synthesizers. The Odyssey System of microwave-enhanced peptide synthesis is 10-20 times as fast as traditional methods and produces cleaner peptides with higher yields. The line includes manual units and automated systems that can synthesize up to 12 different peptides. The systems perform automated resin cleavage and synthesize peptides throughout a wide scale, from 0.05 to 5 mmol. The Odyssey’s compact design conserves bench space and fits in a fume hood.

Genotyping system. The GenomeLab system includes GenomeLab SNPstream, capable of performing 4600 to over 800,000 genotypes per day, and the CEQ 8800 Genetic Analysis System, which processes two 96-well plates and tracks the samples. The CEQ 8800’s genetic analysis applications including DNA sequencing, allele identification, amplified fragment-length polymorphism fingerprinting, SNP scoring, and heterozygote detection.

ChromatographyChromatography. MDS Sciex and LEAP Technologies are introducing the 1D NanoLC System, an advanced automation package that delivers turnkey solutions for nanoLC. It is the first HPLC system to allow nanoscale LC/MS without flow splitting. By incorporating innovative direct pumping technology, the 1D NanoLC System achieves unsurpassed sensitivity, reliability, and stability. Its automated peak-parking feature lowers the flow rate rapidly during a gradient, eliminating previously complex approaches and saving time.

Bioreactors. The Cell Optimizer and Mini-Pilot Plant systems feature automated control over a range of culture volumes from 250 mL to 45 L. The bioreactors can grow a variety of cell lines, including mammalian, plant, insect, bacteria, and fungi. The systems provide monitoring and control of pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature. Individual components can be added for scale-up processes.
Wheaton Science -

Disposable tips. An option for the Quad-Z 215 Liquid Handler, the addition of the tips to the handling unit increases throughput, efficiency, and reproducibility. The autoclavable tips have a dispensing volume range of 1-200 µL. The handler can also be configured with fixed probes for applications that do not require disposable tips.

SPE columns. An information data sheet describes the new Microparticulate Cerex SPE columns. The columns use microparticulate packing that requires smaller sorbent beds than equivalent conventional SPE packings. The patented Cerex packing process allows for very short bed paths without channeling, which reduces back pressure.

Sample preparation kits and reagents. The products in the Ettan sample prep range are the Albumin and IgG Removal Kit, 2-D Fractionation Kit, and basic chemicals and reagents. These kits and reagents remove contaminating compounds. They are used to prepare samples for 2-D electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, and Western blotting.

Plasmid mini-kit. The PerfectPrep model enables the isolation of ultrapure plasmid DNA within 20 min. Automated sequencing produces extremely long read lengths with consistently low error rates. High reproducible yields are obtained via an enhanced alkaline lysis step coupled with a specially activated silica matrix.

DNA purification. The Two-Step Affinity Purification System provides a complete standardized solution for the purification of ultrapure (>98% pure) full-length recombinant proteins, even from eukaryotic cell lysates. Ultrahigh purity is achieved by sequential affinity purification via two small affinity tags, the 6xHis and Strep-tag. The complete system includes expression vectors, purification matrices, and antibodies.

CapsuleCapsule. The Minimate Tangential Flow Filtration Capsule is a disposable filtration device for research and entry-level production of new drugs. The filtration capsule enables rapid prototyping to accelerate and simplify scale-up for many bioprocessing applications. It is designed for single use, eliminating the need for cleaning and cleaning validation. With a range of 10 mL to 2 L, it can be used in all areas of bioprocessing.

Antibodies. These new offerings are specific for acetylated and phosphorylated human p53 as well as WIP1 (PPM1D), a serine/threonine phosphatase that is a transcriptional target of p53 and is implicated in cell cycle control, spermatogenesis, and lymphoid cell function.

FurnaceFurnace. The AAS ZEEnit 65 has a deuterium background compensation (D2 BGC). This graphite furnace can be operated with background correction technique, and it allows hydride AAS with D2 BGC. Ion trap. The 4000 Q Trap LC/ MS/ MS system provides MS/MS capabilities to improve workflow, deliver enhanced data quality, and be up to 10 times as sensitive. The 4000 Q Trap combines high-sensitivity triple-quadrupole technology with the high-performance features of an ion trap for both qualitative and quantitative capabilities for protein and small-molecule research.

HPLC. The cLC system uses various modes of detection, including UV/VIS, ELSD, MS, and RI. The multifunctional system incorporates preparative, analytical, and radial compression columns. Up to 15 g of synthetic organic compounds can be purified per run, and the system is outfitted to accommodate multiple columns with both polar and nonpolar solvents.

ScannerScanner. The 2DCYPHER system offers a complete solution for high-throughput, individual sample identification and tracking. It individually codes cluster tubes with a 14 x 14 array to produce more than 3.6 x 1015 unique codes. In addition, a human-readable, 10-digit alphanumeric code around the data matrix facilitates manual tube identification. Options include 0.65- and 1.2-mL tube formats, lockable racks, and sealing options such as silicone plugs, caps, and septum plugs.

Separation system. The Carr Powerfuge Pilot expedites the development of liquid/solid separations prior to full process scale-up. Flow rates from 0.1-4 L/min and RCFs from 500 to 20,000g can be used for applications such as fermentation, vaccine production, cell harvesting, and cell debris clarification. Sealed feed and drain lines provide aerosol-free operation, and dry compacted solids can be removed without special tools.

Brochure. This four-color brochure details the benefits of the Cerex System-48 multiple SPE column processor and includes pictures of the unit, specifications, and information on compatible columns. The unit uses positive pressure rather than vacuum to process up to 48 1- to 6-mL columns simultaneously.

Labeling kit. The CyDye DIGE Fluor Labeling Kit is designed for scarce samples and enables labeling and comparison of as little as 5 µg of material. It allows customers to use 2-D DIGE methodology for the analysis of minute protein abundance differences. The kit includes two different dyes.

Genetic analyzers. The Prism series uses capillary electrophoresis technology to provide the appropriate genetic analysis for the laboratory. The 310 is a single-capillary analyzer for academic and forensic laboratories. The 3100 Avant expands on the 310’s capability with a 4-capillary system to provide sophisticated automation capabilities. The 3100 is an automated 16-capillary system that delivers accurate, reliable results across the complete range of sequencing and genotyping applications.

Processing system. The Syncore uses a modular concept to increase productivity in parallel and combinatorial chemistry. The system can run from 4 to 96 samples simultaneously, handling volumes up to 500 mL. Bumping is eliminated with an adjustable vortex eccentricity. Available accessories include the Polyvap parallel evaporator, which performs multiple evaporations of different volumes, and the Syncore analyst, which provides parallel evaporation for residue analysis.

RNA reagentRNA reagent. Based on a lipid formulation, RNAiFect gives efficient transfection of siRNA into a wide range of eukaryotic cells. RNAiFect provides high transfection efficiency with low cytotoxicity. Its low endotoxin levels and testing for the absence of RNase activity ensure reproducible performance in the most demanding RNAi experiments. It can be used for transfecting a wide range of cell types, including AGS, HEK-293, HeLaS3, Huh-7, HUVEC, NIH-3T3, and PA317 cells.

Water purifiersWater purifiers. The AFS-8 and AFS-16 analyzer feed systems are designed to produce reagent water from tap water for direct feed to clinical analyzers. Both systems use activated carbon, particulate prefiltration, and ion-exhange resins to produce Type I water. The AFS systems have Class One Medical Device status (under FDA citation 21 CFR 862.2050), and the water generated by the systems meets NCCLS (National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards) Type I and Type II reagent water specifications.

PCR instrument. The COBAS TaqMan 48 analyzer is an in vitro diagnostic (IVD) device combining IVD and real-time PCR capabilities in one instrument. The TaqMan provides researchers with a fully automated tool for tissue and cell disruption. It features real-time quantitation and can increase output, having eliminated a separate detection step.

Compounds. A 96- or 384-well plate can be customized with target sets of compounds that are at least 90% pure and can be used for HTS. The four libraries feature over 250,000 compounds that can be tailored to researchers’ specifications, such as ADME properties, specific amounts, and diversity criteria.

Dye kits. CyDye fluors are specifically formatted for labeling proteins or antibodies in protein array experiments. Each kit contains two vials of protein-array-grade monoreactive dye packaged in a color-coded Securitainer for ease of identification. The kits, one containing Cy3 monoreactive dye and the other Cy5, allow researchers to perform either one-color sandwich assays or multiplexed differential analysis. The kits contain sufficient dye to label material for 20 to 80 protein array slides.
