ACS Fall Meeting preview
Technology Milestones will celebrate 125 years of chemistrys impact on modern life.
The American Chemical Societys 222nd National Meeting in Chicago (August 2630) will feature 30 of the societys technical divisions, three secretariats, and five committees participating in over 600 technical sessions. More than 6000 papers will be presented.
In the societys quest to enhance the public image of chemistry, and in conjunction with the 125th Anniversary of ACS, ACS President Attila E. Pavlath will host a preview of Technology Milestones. This project celebrates 125 years of chemistrys technological impact on modern life.
In a Meet the President session on Monday afternoon, August 27, Pavlath will be available to discuss member concerns and to share results of an electronic membership poll.
Celebrating a Century of Chemistry: The American Chemical Society Anniversary Years of 1901, 1926, 1951, and 1976, a special symposium sponsored by the Division of the History of Chemistry, will feature four speakers on Monday afternoon. There will also be an exhibit of historic artifacts from the anniversary gatherings of those four years outside Hall E in McCormick Place, Sunday through Wednesday.
The ChemLuminary Awards gala, now in its third year, will be held on Tuesday, August 28, from 7:30 to 11:30 PM in the Chicago Marriott. These awards honor the activities of ACS members both through local section and division participation and individually.
The ACS exposition will be open Monday, August 27, through Wednesday, August 29, with more than 300 companies and organizations displaying everything from instruments and books to computer hardware and scientific software (see floor plan).
