In February, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 into law. The nearly $790 billion package is intended to stimulate the faltering economy through tax breaks and government spending. Included in this stimulus money is upwards of $20 billion for science that must be allocated by the end of fiscal 2010.
The following collection of stories covers the passage of this legislation, initial agency plans for spending the money, and the impact the funds are having specifically on the chemical industry and academia.
