Director-At-Large Slate Finalized

ACS has received and validated a petition candidate for the special director-at-large interim election. The petition candidate is Dennis Chamot, associate executive director at the Division of Engineering & Physical Sciences of the National Research Council. The candidates selected by the ACS Committee on Nominations & Elections are Paul S. Anderson, vice president of drug discovery at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Douglas J. Raber, senior scholar at the Board on Chemical Sciences & Technology of the National Research Council. The special interim election is being held to fill the ACS Board of Directors vacancy created by the resignation of Joan E. Shields, director-at-large (C&EN, June 17, page 8). Ballots will be mailed to all ACS councilors on or around Aug. 9, with Sept. 6 as the anticipated deadline for return of the ballots. The winner will serve the remaining 16 months of Shields's original 2001–03 term.
