BioWhittaker 152

Mass spectrometer. The Esquire 2000 electrospray ionization ion-trap LC/MS/MS system enables specific characterization of complex mixtures in drug discovery, fast LC/MS, combinatorial chemistry, and QA/QC applications. It includes SmartSuite software to speed and simplify the setup of LC/MS/MS analyses.
Bruker Daltonics 153

Cloning kit. TrueBlue offers accurate and reliable cloning technology. It is available with a ready-to-use MicroCartridge delivery system filled with all the reagents needed for a complete PCR cloning kit. The kit works with all PCR products including the 3acuteA overhang, blunt, 5acuteOH, and 5acutePO4.
Genomics One 154

Marker. The TriChromRanger Marker is a mixture of seven prestained proteins. The component proteins with the lowest and second-highest molecular weight are covalently modified with a purple and red dye to act as reference bands in the gel. The remaining five proteins are covalently modified with a blue dye. The two differently stained bands in the marker allow easy protein recognition on Western blots or SDS-PAGE gels if the dye front runs off the bottom of the gel.
Pierce 155

Fermentation analyzer. This multichannel chemistry unit offers a comprehensive test menu for real-time monitoring of bacterial fermentation processes. The BioProfile 300 provides nine measured tests: glucose, lactate, acetate, phosphate, ammonium, glycerol, pH, sodium, and potassium. It is fully automated and has a 40-position sampling tray for batch processing.
Nova Biomedical 156

Web site. InnoCentive is a Web-based network that allows companies to post their problems online, inviting scientists around the world to view and submit potential solutions for the problems. Financial awards are given to those scientists who come up with the best solutions.
InnoCentive 157

Software. The Chiral Calculation and Deconvolution program calculates enantiomeric excess and specific rotation in analytical, preparative, and SMB chiral applications. It also calculates ee and sr for incompletely resolved analytical separations, identifies the ee of fraction cuts for preparative purifications, and determines the ee of SMB output streams.
PDR Chiral 158

Platform. The MultiScreen 384 is a high-throughput membrane-based system for biomolecular separations. Based on a size-exclusion technology, the system is automation-compatible, making it an ideal sample preparation method.
Decode Genetics 159

Vacuum filter cup. The Stericup-VP removes mycoplasma and provides high-speed filtration of up to 1 L with low protein binding. The unit can be used in laminar-flow hoods. Its no-tip, easy-grip flask design and compact profile improve gripping and stability during filtration. The bottom of the receiver flask is slightly recessed, allowing capped flasks to be stacked for storage.
Millipore 160

Bioinformatics tool. The CellSpace Knowledge Miner continuously monitors the research literature of molecular and cellular biology, automatically extracting and databasing information on relationships between molecules of biomedical interest. Its simple drag-and-drop operation allows the user to quickly identify relationships between molecules as well as between molecules and functions.
Cellomics 161

Robotic platform. AutoGenesys provides high-speed colony picking, total arraying, replicating, and gridding. It can produce 3000 pick–place–sterilize cycles per hour. A tool changer with a capacity for five tools is included for quick modifications. AutoGenesys accommodates a variety of source plates and uses standard or deep-well destination plates in 96- or 384-well format.
AutoGen 162

Brochure. “Dependable Measurement for Natural Gas Testing: Agilent 3000 Natural Gas Analyzer” describes the importance of quickly and accurately measuring the chemical composition and physical properties of natural gas. This information is of interest to natural gas producers and gatherers, gas distribution companies, electrical utilities, and independent testing laboratories.
Agilent Technologies 163

Biochip reader. The PC-based arrayWoRxecombines a white light source and charge-coupled device camera rather than a laser light source and photomultiplier tube. This technique gives more experimental flexibility through a greater selection of fluorescent probes. Additionally, users can design experiments employing up to four wavelengths in one biochip. The arrayWoRxe provides highly accurate and repeatable data for various biochip applications, including SNPs, genomics, proteomics, and drug discovery and development.
Applied Precision 164

In-gel digest kit. The Montage Digest96 provides an accurate, rapid, and convenient way to digest and purify up to 96 samples simultaneously for high-throughput mass spectroanalysis. The kit contains the reagents and enzymes needed to prepare samples and ensures that each reagent is mixed to a uniform standard. The kit also prevents the inconsistencies associated with outsourcing and manual mixing.
Millipore 165

Laboratory automation. The Cytomat integrates the PlateCrane Microplate Handler with the Kendro Heraeus Cytomat incubators and storage systems for HTS. A combination of hardware and software automates the movement of microplates into and out of the incubator. The incubator can be treated as a source of plates, a destination for plates, or a temporary holding place for incubation. Setup and control are accomplished through Windows-based Crane software. This work cell can be combined with other laboratory automation instruments, such as liquid handlers, washers, and readers, to build a complete assay system.
Hudson Control Group 166

Immunoprecipitation. These kits offer better protein recovery than traditional decanting. They work in four steps and allow researchers to reuse the Protein A or Protein G supports. A pink tracking dye in the sample loading buffer makes it easy to follow the buffer front and indicates when proteins are completely transferred to nitrocellulose membranes for further characterization by Western blotting.
Pierce 167

Centrifugal concentrator. The Discovery SpeedVac is a high-capacity, high-throughput tool for combinatorial chemistry. Components handle aggressive solvents such as TFA, acetonitrile, DMSO, methanol, and methylene chloride. Interchangeable multilevel rotors hold up to 120 shallow-well microtiter plates or whole test-tube racks in a single run. A compact design allows the unit to fit inside a conventional walk-in fume hood without modifications. A built-in 100-L/min, oil-free, maintenance-free vacuum pump and a 7.5-L capacity cold trap make it a stand-alone system with “plug-in and use” convenience.
Thermo Savant 168

Sample preparation. Products are available in 384-well, 96-well, or individual column format and include protein precipitate filtration applications, diatomaceous earth-filled plates for supported liquid–liquid extractions, desalting applications using Sephadex or size-exclusion matrix, and 0.8- and 2.2-mL well filtration plates for removal of fines prior to liquid chromatography.
