Gyrolab Bioaffy allows scientists to run established sandwich-based immunoassays
for protein quantification at a nanoliter scale. This CD microlaboratory, together
with an updated Gyrolab Workstation with laser-induced fluorescence detection,
can assay proteins in a format optimized for working with small volumes and many
samples. Nanoliter-scale procedures offer a major reduction in sample and reagent
consumption per data point. Time-consuming and costly investigations caused by
limited availability of sample, such as biomarker profiling in small-animal models,
can be reduced to days rather than weeks with more proteins being assayed in a
single sample.
“Gyrolab Bioaffy and our sample preparation CD, Gyrolab MALDI, are both run
on Gyrolab Workstation, demonstrating the flexibility of the Gyros technology
platform,” said Per Sjöberg, executive vice president of marketing and sales at
Gyros AB. “Users can benefit from a single instrument that runs different application
CDs as required. Our development strategy is to focus on areas in which miniaturization
and integration of protein applications into a CD microlaboratory have clear advantages.
Gyrolab Bioaffy will allow the customer to assay their proteins in a format optimized
for working with small volumes and many samples.”
Sjöberg added that demonstrations and customer collaborations can be performed
at Gyros facilities in Princeton, NJ, and Uppsala, Sweden. Anyone with a serious
interest is encouraged to contact Gyros representatives to arrange a visit.

Syringe
filters. The Millex line is a series of automation-compatible syringe
filters that eliminate filter-related problems that can shut down automated systems.
Unattended operation of workstations is possible in applications such as dissolution
testing and HPLC sample preparation. Millex filters have a smooth, domed housing
instead of the sharp edges on conventional syringe filters. They operate on a
variety of automated systems and are available with nylon membrane, polyvinylidene
fluoride (PVDF) membrane, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane, mixed esters
of cellulose membrane, and glass fiber filters in packs of 200 and 1000.

Mass spectrometer. The GV2003 CO2
and N2 instrument is a safe, rapid, and noninvasive breath-testing
tool for a number of clinical conditions, such as Helicobacter pylori infection,
fat malabsorption, gastric emptying, lactose intolerance, amino acid oxidation,
liver function, fatty acid oxidation, intestinal overgrowth, and metabolic turnover.
The GV2003 uses a versatile gas preparation module to meet these demands. This
enables precise and accurate determination of both 13C and 18O
in CO2. The GV2003 uses an online internally calibrated CO2
reference gas which is measured immediately after each breath CO2 sample.
The use of online calibrated CO2 gas, rather than external gas standards
in sample containers, eliminates potential gas-handling errors and ensures that
the maximum number of autosampler positions are filled with either breath or QA/QC
samples.

Packaging
system. The Retro-X provides a fast method for producing high titers
of replication-incompetent retrovirus with the host range required for experiments.
The packaging system can be used with any Moloney murine leukemia virus (MMLV)-based
expression vector and is ideal when testing multiple expression constructs because
recombinant retrovirus can be obtained in only 48 h. The Retro-X includes the
GP2-293 cell line, which has the MMLV gag and pol genes stably integrated
in its genome. It also includes four different envelop vectors for targeting any
host cell. Stable expression of the viral Gag and Pol proteins from the GP2-293
genome contributes to high viral titers and eliminates overexpression.

Detector.
The Optilab rEX refractometer with EXtended range is an RI detector that offers
chromatographers 256 times the detection power and up to 50 times the dynamic
range of other RI detectors. It incorporates cutting-edge semiconductor photodiode
technology and proprietary computer algorithms. The Optilab rEX flow cell comes
standard with a total volume of only 7.4 µL, 25% less than other refractometers
available today. This reduced volume minimizes band broadening and improves temperature
stability. The Optilab rEX also can measure the absolute refractive index
of a solution online. It is compatible with all HPLC systems and is ideal for
many applications, including polymers, biopolymers, proteins, fatty acids, triglycerides,
carbohydrates, and starches.

suitable for use in standard, high-throughput downstream applications. Yields
of up to 4 µg of high-copy plasmid DNA are typically obtained from 1.25 mL of
E. coli culture grown in LB medium. Furthermore, the yield of plasmid DNA
is sufficient for several sequencing reactions and additional archiving of the
sample.
