Autism is a brain development disorder that typically appears within a child's first three years and is characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, as well as restricted and repetitive behavior.
A Growing Problem
Between 1994 and 2004, the number of six- to 17-year-old children classified by U.S. public schools as having autism rose from 22,664 to 193,637.
